Where to roller ski? Ideal places Tarmac surfaces with no traffic - cycle circuits like the Minet Cycle Circuit, Hayes, London; Eastway Cycle Circuit, London; Hetton Lyons Cycle Circuit, Hetton Le Hole, Co Durham; the Manifold Valley path, Derbyshire; parks (if allowed), private roads. Less ideal Quiet roads - but watch there are not too many blind spots for drivers travelling much faster than you; look out for downhills and take skis off going down unsuitable hills; it will be safer if there is a large grass verge to hop onto in emergencies. Unsuitable (if not illegal) Parks with roller blade bans in force (like most of the Royal Parks in London), main roads, concrete surfaces (the pole tips bounce off!) Roller Ski Directory The English Ski Council have sponsored the publication of a book on roller ski venues. Click here for more details. Join a club - many clubs affiliated to the English Ski Council or Snowsport Scotland put on organised roller ski sessions, and may even have equipment available to try. |
